Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween is the most dangerous night of the year for pedestrians. It’s true! There are more people injured or killed on Halloween than any other night of the year. Sadly, this includes children too. This year, keep Halloween safety a top priority with these simple tips.

Pedestrian safety is always a major concern for us. We want everyone to have a safe trick or treat experience. Additionally, we’ve put together tips to help you stay safe while collecting candy.
Choose The Right Halloween Costume
Halloween safety starts with a smart costume. A dark-colored costume, like John Snow, probably isn’t a good idea. Consider a costume that will make it easy for others to see you.

For children’s costumes, make sure they are highly visible. Bright colors, reflective tape, and lights are all great for visibility. Avoid any costume with a mask. Consider face paint instead. Remember, if your child can’t easily see around them, it’s not the right costume.
Plan Your Route
A little bit of planning can help everyone stay safe. Take a flashlight or use your phone’s flashlight. Use well-lit streets. Walk with a group for increased safety. Stay on the sidewalk. Only cross the street at crosswalks. Always wait for cars to stop before crossing the street.
Discuss Safety With Children
Children get excited at the prospect of free candy. It’s exciting to stay up late going door-to-door collecting candy. But, it’s important to discuss pedestrian safety with them. Tell them the route you will take. When they should cross the street. What to do if they get separated from the group.

Inspect All Candy
It is tempting to eat a few pieces of candy while trick or treating. But, inspect all candy before eating any of it. Throw away any candy with open or missing wrappers. Some local hospitals and urgent care facilities offer free candy x-ray testing.
Safety Is Important
As a personal injury law firm, we see a lot of injuries all year. But, we wish we didn’t. Safety is important to us. It is why we do what we do. We want the world to be a safer place. When people make bad decisions that hurt others, we hold them accountable.
Anyone with a pedestrian injury should speak to an attorney. There may be money to help you recover. Find an experienced pedestrian injury lawyer.
