What Is Chantix?

Chantix is intended to be used as part of a plan with the support of a counselor. There is a slew of side effects, yet the makers continued offering the drug. Doctors and patients are supposed to weigh the benefits and risks of using Chantix based on the possible side effects. However, doctors and patients weren’t warned about the increased possibility of cancer.
Chantix Causes Cancer
In July of 2021, Pfizer issued a voluntary recall of a small batch of Chantix products. Testing found Chantix contains high levels of carcinogens. In August of 2021, Pfizer expanded the recall to include all Chantix .5mg and 1mg tablets.

NDMA In Chantix
N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a cancer-causing contaminant, was detected at harmful levels. The Chantix manufacturer stated that the halt in production was “ordered out of an abundance of caution while further testing [was] is conducted.”

Chantix Still Available
The FDA later stated that patients should continue to take the medication, despite the increased cancer risk. Officials consider the benefits of quitting smoking outweigh the risk of developing cancer. However, patients were not made aware.

Pfizer failed to warn users of the serious side effects associated with taking Chantix. For some time, people taking Chantix were exposed to dangerous levels of NDMA. This exposure can lead to specific types of cancer.
